FAQ’s
Do I need a doctors referral? Can I claim a rebate?
Privately funded or insured patients do not need a referral and can phone us direct on 62231011, for an appointment. You can claim rebates on your private health fund “extras” table with HICAPS on the spot rebates.
If you are eligible for medicare rebates under a Chronic disease management plan, you will need to get a care plan referral from your GP. Eligible clients can claim Medicare rebates for up to 5 visits per year, these benefits can also be claimed on the spot following up front payment. Note that gap payments usually apply and Medicare will only offer rebates on consults not appliances etc. DVA gold card holders are fully covered with a GP referral. MAIB & WORKCOVER clients are accepted, however a referral is required.
Is there parking nearby?
Yes there is free 2 hour parking on the street right outside our practice. As you come up Davey Street, stay in the right hand lane and take the first available park after the Antill Street traffic lights. Free parking extends from the lights right up past Radiology Tasmania and our rooms are located between these landmarks, an easy short walk.Patients with mobility restriction can be dropped inside the grounds of the practice, via the driveway. Discuss this with our receptionists when you book your consult.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
It is helpful to bring the pairs of shoes you most commonly wear, eg work, sport, school, dance shoes etc. Bring along any relevant x-rays, scans, medical reports or letters and a list of any operations you have had and medicines that you take. If you have existing orthotics, insoles and casts, bring them too.
Can you help me find the best shoes for my feet?
Absolutely. Our Podiatrists can assess your current shoes and any difficulties you may be having. We can guide and teach you how to choose shoes to fit properly, support your feet, accommodate orthotics, bunions, hammer toes, wide feet, narrow feet, arthritic feet etc. Athletes will be guided on choosing the correct shoe for their activity & foot type. Parents can get the correct information on shoes for all stages of their child’s life, to help keep them comfortable and prevent future foot problems.
Do you sell/supply footwear
Yes, we stock several brands of comfort and orthotic friendly footwear. Our passion is helping people find comfortable but attractive footwear. Brands include: ZIERA, REVERE, TAOS, and KLOUDS and SILVER LINING womens fashion shoes, sneakers, sandals and boots AND ORTHOTIC THONGS which have built in orthotic support. We also stock PROPET mens casual dress shoes, which are light weight, wide fitting and can accommodate orthoses. See our Facebook page “shop” for current styles. (link below)
What types of foot orthotics/orthoses do you prescribe?
We prescribe a variety of orthotic styles depending on your particular problem and needs. Custom made orthotics can be made from soft rubber (eva) materials, semi-rigid plastics with plain or cushioned top covers through to slim/firm carbon fibre orthotic shells and 3D printed orthotics. Different orthotic styles can be made from slim/dress shoe orthotics through to full length, full support or sports orthotics. We also stock lower cost, medical grade, pre-moulded orthotics which can be ‘customised’ to suit your feet.
Do you custom make shoes?
No we don’t. Our experience is that with the right advice, it is rare that we cannot find our clients suitable, comfortable ‘stock’ shoes for their feet. Therefore, rarely are customised shoes warranted. Custom made shoes tend to be very expensive and in our experience, only a small group of people actually require customised shoes, such as those with severe foot abnormalities. However, for those clients who do require them, these can be arranged.
